Paving The Way To Career Pathways: Creating The Skill On-Ramps Our Adult English Learners Need (62 min.)

This archived webinar, presented by adult education expert Jayme Adelson-Goldstein, explores the rationale behind—and the process of—contextualizing English language instruction for work and career pathways. In the video the correlation between contextualization and language development is explained, and areas of contextualization that may already be present in teaching practice are considered.

ATLAS Classroom Videos

These Minnesota Adult Basic Education (ABE) Professional Development videos are part of the Adult Basic Education Teaching and Learning Advancement System (ATLAS), Learning to Learn, Transitions Integration Framework (TIF) series which was designed to provide guidance to ABE programs and instructors on the effective integration of transitions skills into instruction at all levels of ABE, including ESL levels.
  • Developing a Future Pathway (20 min.)
    This video features an intermediate level lesson on identifying a career pathway and what questions to ask in an informational interview.
  • Learning Strategies (32 min.)
    This video features a low–beginning/low literacy approach to a lesson that focuses on career content and job duties as seen through a picture story.


This extensive video collection features numerous short clips about careers, industries, skills and abilities, or work options and education levels. The collection includes:

  • Career and Cluster videos in English and Spanish show the types of work people do in nearly 550 careers, organized by the 16 career clusters recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Skill and Ability videos present the skills and abilities employers are looking for in job candidates. Each video also includes examples of careers that require the skills or abilities discussed.
  • Industry videos provide information on popular industry jobs such as health services, retail, and manufacturing.
  • Work Option videos provide information on non–traditional careers that do not require a college degree, provide on–the–job training, or require a 2–year associates degree.
