Math Videos on Depth of Knowledge: 3 Problems
Welcome! Webb's Depth of Knowledge (DOK) is a framework that has supplanted Bloom’s taxonomy as the primary tool for describing and evaluating the complexity of tasks. DOK rates tasks from level 1 (simple) to level 4 (complex). As academic rigor increases nationwide, the Common Core State Standards and the three high school completion exams - TASC, HiSET, and GED 2014 - have aligned to DOK. Many gatekeeper exams now require students to solve at least some intricate problems at DOK level 3. As a result, it is imperative for teachers to prepare their students to tackle problems at this challenging level.
The following videos feature a variety of excerpts from lessons that address DOK level 3 problems. Also included are reflections from the instructor, Leila Rosemberg, Culver City Adult School Academic Department Chair and GED and High School Diploma Instructor, and from her students about their experience with DOK 3 math problems.
