Today’s adult education classrooms are welcoming a growing number of younger learners whose high‑school years were impacted by pandemic‑era disruptions. This three‑hour workshop equips educators with practical, evidence‑based strategies for engaging today's adult learners. Drawing on CALPRO’s motivation and persistence for adult learners training, participants will explore how to set clear and high expectations, build trust through social‑emotional learning, support goal setting and self‑management, and design student-centered learning experiences that engage all students.

The session also highlights active learning approaches—such as providing autonomy, collaborative learning, and contextualized instruction—that resonate strongly with today’s learners with varied needs. Educators will leave with ready‑to‑use strategies to motivate, connect with, and support all students in their classrooms.

This tailored regional CoP is designed for the staff and teachers at ABC Adult School. Registration through the school is required. 

There is no registration fee to participate; CALPRO professional development opportunities are available to all California Adult Education Program (CAEP) agencies and employees.

The Integrated Education and Training Design Toolkit guides users through a team-based approach to develop customized IET solutions that address the needs of adult learners and local businesses through four iterative phases: Research and Assess, Design and Plan, Develop and Implement, and Evaluate and Improve. This training provides background to educators for teaching skills transferable from the classroom to the workplace and explicitly teaching how to articulate those skills. The training offers ideas for hands-on application of transferable skills in adult basic education (ABE) and adult secondary education (ASE) classrooms.

How can you prepare your learners to succeed in the workforce? Find out what employers say are essential skills for today's workforce. This Community of Practice shows you how to connect transferable skills in the English as a Second Language classroom to the workplace. It also offers examples of contextualizing ESL instruction easily by using workplace activities and forms.

This webinar provides an introduction to the elements needed for successful team teaching and, specifically, the development of a single set of integrated learning objectives to guide instruction. IET administrators, ESL and workforce training (CTE) teachers explore approaches and strategies for the planning and successful implementation of integrated programs. The webinar was produced collaboratively by staff from the State Leadership Projects CALPRO and CASAS.

In the Co-Teaching model, two instructors share a class, one teaching basic skills and the other providing technical training to their students. One way of doing this is using the integrated basic skills and educational training (IBEST) method. San Diego Continuing Education offers a certified nursing assistant program that is delivered using this model. Listen to several practitioners share their perspectives and lessons learned.
