Mastering the English Language Proficiency Standards (Online)
Course Description:This course will introduce participants to the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards and provide strategies for using the standards to guide and inform instruction. ESL instructors can benefit from familiarity with and reliance on the ELP Standards for Adult Education to guide instruction toward the increased rigor and skills that adult learners need for successful transition to work, postsecondary training, or further education, and for participation in communities. The course takes place entirely online and runs for four consecutive weeks. Weekly participation is required, though participants may, during a given week, log in whenever they wish. Two 90-minute webinars will be scheduled during the course, with a makeup option offered to accommodate time conflicts. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (15 hours); they are also eligible to apply to CSUS for 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) if they wish.Goals:The goals of this course are to introduce ESL instructors to the ELP Standards and how they provide the language support to meet the rigorous requirements of the College and Career Readiness Standards for adults; to explore and practice applying the standards to teaching; and to develop a deep understanding of the requirements of academic rigor along with scaffolding strategies to help adult students reach their goals.Registration Information:There is no registration fee to participate. Aligning CTE Standards to the CCRS and ELPS
This video provides adult educators, curriculum developers, and program leaders with practical guidance for aligning and integrating three essential educational frameworks: the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Model Curriculum Standards, the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for Adult Education, and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) for Adult Education. Through examples and instructional strategies, viewers will learn how to connect career-focused content with academic readiness and language development goals to create more cohesive and effective learning experiences for adult learners. The video supports the design of integrated instruction that prepares students for workforce success, postsecondary opportunities, and continued skill development.
Integrated and Contextualized Workforce Skills in the Classroom, Session I: Transferable Skills for the Workplace (Part 1, Online)
Workshop Description :How can you prepare your learners to succeed in the workforce? Find out what employers say are essential skills for today's workforce. This session shows you how to connect transferable skills in the classroom to the workplace.This is the first of two sessions; each session is broken into two parts (4 webinars total). Part 2 of Session I will take place on May 16, 2024, from 4:00-5:30pm. Session II is geared toward implementing integrated and contextualized instruction for specific content areas.Please note: Registering for Part 1 of either session automatically registers you for Part 2 of that session.Goals :The goal is to provide background on skills transferable from the classroom to the workplace and to teach students how to articulate those skills. Session I emphasizes the need to directly teach transferable skills and the connection between using these skills in the classroom and in the workplace. The Integrated Education and Training Design Toolkit guides users through a team-based approach to develop customized IET solutions that address the needs of adult learners and local businesses through four iterative phases: Research and Assess, Design and Plan, Develop and Implement, and Evaluate and Improve. Integrated and Contextualized Workforce Skills in the ABE/ASE Classroom
This training provides background to educators for teaching skills transferable from the classroom to the workplace and explicitly teaching how to articulate those skills. The training offers ideas for hands-on application of transferable skills in adult basic education (ABE) and adult secondary education (ASE) classrooms.

This training guides agency teams in creating an action plan for putting into place the necessary foundations for implementing an Integrated Education and Training (IET) model that aligns with the agencyâs IET vision.
Introduction to Designing a Single Set of Shared Learning Objectives for Integrated Education and Training (IET)
This webinar provides an introduction to the elements needed for successful team teaching and, specifically, the development of a single set of integrated learning objectives to guide instruction. IET administrators, ESL and workforce training (CTE) teachers explore approaches and strategies for the planning and successful implementation of integrated programs. The webinar was produced collaboratively by staff from the State Leadership Projects CALPRO and CASAS.
Aligning CTE Standards to the CCRS and ELPS
