Hosted by San Joaquin Adult Education Consortium How can you prepare your learners to succeed in the workforce? Find out what employers say are essential skills for today's workforce. This 2-hour session shows you how to integrate transferable skills seamlessly in the adult education classroom. This course is underway and no longer available for registration.Course Description:This course helps participants improve their writing instruction for ESL students by applying (1) research-based instructional techniques, (2) protocols for analyzing students’ work, and (3) guided instructional plans. The course takes place entirely online and runs for four consecutive weeks. Weekly participation is required, though participants may, during a given week, log in whenever they wish. Two live webinars will be scheduled during the course; webinar dates and times will be announced and posted. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (14 hours); they are also eligible to apply to CSUS for 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) if they wish.Goals:Each participant will develop an instructional plan to use in their classroom to teach writing effectively to ESL students. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to understand the research on teaching writing to adult ESL students; analyze student work using an evidence-based method to identify specific skills requiring additional instructional attention; and implement evidence-based instructional techniques to improve writing instruction.Registration Information:There is no registration fee to participate; CALPRO professional development opportunities are available to all California Adult Education Program (CAEP) agencies and employees.Registered participants will receive final confirmation and details by Friday, February 20, 2026. We will examine what employers identify as essential skills for today's workforce and explore the projected fastest growing jobs and skills required in those occupations. You will investigate local job trends and discuss how to incorporate transferable skills into your English as a Second Language classroom. This CoP offers examples of contextualizing ESL instruction seamlessly by using workplace activities and forms.This CoP takes place on Moodle and at Escondido Adult School and runs for 6 consecutive weeks, from 02/23/2026 to 04/05/2026. There will be asynchronous online activities, including forum discussions and job-embedded lesson planning and implementation, before, in-between, and after the required two Face-to Face sessions.  These three-hour in-person workshops are scheduled for Tuesdays, March 3 and March 17, 5:00pm - 8:00 pm at Escondido Adult School.Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (16 hours).Registration Information:This tailored regional CoP is designed for ESL teachers at Escondido Adult School. There is no registration fee to participate; CALPRO professional development opportunities are available to all California Adult Education Program (CAEP) agencies and employees.

Hosted by San Diego College of Continuing Education/SDCCDAdult education instructors who work with English language learners can benefit from familiarity with the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards for Adult Education. These standards help guide instruction toward the increased rigor and skills needed for successful transition to work, postsecondary training, and active participation in community life.In this virtual session, participants will explore the guiding principles of the ELP standards and consider how they apply to instructional practice.
