CALPRO Research Forum: Formative Assessment for Data-Informed Differentiated Instruction
This one-hour webinar explores how formative assessment can enhance teaching and learning to support adult learners' persistence and goal achievement. The webinar will address common misconceptions about formative assessment, such as the belief that itâs too time-consuming or only useful for teachers. Through examining real-life examples, participants will learn strategies for collecting and analyzing learner data to inform differentiated instruction. The session will include practical examples, tools for implementation, and opportunities for reflection and discussion.

Integrated and Contextualized Workforce Skills
Hosted by San Joaquin Adult Education Consortium How can you prepare your learners to succeed in the workforce? Find out what employers say are essential skills for today's workforce. This 2-hour session shows you how to integrate transferable skills seamlessly in the adult education classroom. It also offers examples of contextualizing instruction by using workplace activities and forms.Registration Information:This training is offered as part of the professional development day for the San Joaquin adult education consortium. Evidence-Based Writing Instruction in the ESL Classroom (Online)
This course is underway and no longer available for registration.Course Description:This course helps participants improve their writing instruction for ESL students by applying (1) research-based instructional techniques, (2) protocols for analyzing studentsâ work, and (3) guided instructional plans. The course takes place entirely online and runs for four consecutive weeks. Weekly participation is required, though participants may, during a given week, log in whenever they wish. Two live webinars will be scheduled during the course; webinar dates and times will be announced and posted. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (14 hours); they are also eligible to apply to CSUS for 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) if they wish.Goals:Each participant will develop an instructional plan to use in their classroom to teach writing effectively to ESL students. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to understand the research on teaching writing to adult ESL students; analyze student work using an evidence-based method to identify specific skills requiring additional instructional attention; and implement evidence-based instructional techniques to improve writing instruction.Registration Information:There is no registration fee to participate; CALPRO professional development opportunities are available to all California Adult Education Program (CAEP) agencies and employees.Registered participants will receive final confirmation and details by Friday, February 20, 2026. These three-hour in-person workshops are scheduled for Tuesdays, March 3 and March 17, 5:00pm - 8:00 pm at Escondido Adult School.Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (16 hours).Registration Information:This tailored regional CoP is designed for ESL teachers at Escondido Adult School.
